In her twenties, Belle da Costa Greene is hired by J. P.
Morgan to curate a collection of rare manuscripts, books,
and artwork for his newly built Pierpont Morgan Library.
Belle becomes a fixture in New York City society and one of
the most powerful people in the art and book world, known
for her impeccable taste and shrewd negotiating for critical
works as she helps create a world-class collection.
But Belle has a secret, one she must protect at all costs.
She was born not Belle da Costa Greene but Belle Marion
Greener. She is the daughter of Richard Greener, the first
Black graduate of Harvard and a well-known advocate for
equality. Belle’s complexion isn’t dark because of her
alleged Portuguese heritage that lets her pass as white—her
complexion is dark because she is African American.
For millennia
the location of the Nile River’s headwaters was shrouded in
mystery. In the 19th century, there was a frenzy of interest
in ancient Egypt. At the same time, European powers sent off
waves of explorations intended to map the unknown corners of
the globe – and extend their colonial empires.

Through wide-ranging, and often deeply personal conversation, Oprah
Winfrey and Dr. Perry explore how what happens to us in early
childhood both good and bad - influences the people we become. They
challenge us to shift from focusing on, “What’s wrong with you?” or
“Why are you behaving that way?,” to asking, “What happened to you?”
This simple change in perspective can open up a new and hopeful
understanding for millions about why we do the things we do, why we
are the way we are, providing a road map for repairing
relationships, overcoming what seems insurmountable, and ultimately
living better and more fulfilling lives.
Many of us experience adversity and trauma during childhood that has
lasting impact on our physical and emotional health. And as we’re
beginning to understand, we are more sensitive to developmental
trauma as children than we are as adults. ‘What happened to us’ in
childhood is a powerful predictor of our risk for physical and
mental health problems down the road.

Victoria McQueen has an uncanny knack
for finding things: a misplaced bracelet, a missing photograph,
answers to unanswerable questions. When she rides her bicycle over
the rickety old covered bridge in the woods near her house, she
always emerges in the places she needs to be.

the everyday world and onto hidden roads that lead to an astonishing
playground of amusements he calls Christmasland. The journey across
the highway of Charlie's twisted imagination transforms his precious
passengers, leaving them as terrifying and unstoppable as their
benefactor.
